History

The history of VX

VX was launched under its former name of Rock-It-Ball in February 2006 at the Youth Sport Trust's Sports Colleges Conference.

In October 2012, as a result of the international growth, it was felt that a different name was needed - one that would translate better (or didn't need translating). This was opened up to the membership worldwide for suggestions and shortlisting. Out of that process the result was VX.

Since then it has spread through schools in the UK, is being used increasingly by Higher and Further Education Establishments. It is also being used by Health Trusts, Prisons, the Military and Youth Organisations. VX really is a sport for all!

In its short life VX has spread internationally and now has at presence in 26 countries (some more than others) of which 16 have National Governing Bodies at different levels of development. England still leads the way but other countries are working hard to catch up.

Over the course of its life different disciplines have been developed

VX - this is the standard team game

V2 - is singles

these are the two formats that are currently leading the development of the sport.

Other 'official' versions which are not being used for competition yet are

V3 - 1v1v1

V4 - doubles

There is also a 'Quidditch' version.

Some NGBs now have clubs, leagues, and tournaments. There is also competition at international level

  • an annual V2 World Cup
  • a VX World Cup every 4 years
  • European Championships every two years (VX and V2)
  • VX India hosted the first Test Match Series

As an indication of how international VX is becoming the

  • 2017 V2 World Cup was in Italy
  • 2018 V2 World Cup was in India
  • 2019 V2 and VX World Cups were held in England
  • 2021 V2 World Cup is scheduled for Hong Kong This should have taken place in 2020 but was moved back a year because of the Coronavirus pandemic

The sport has its own Honours and Awards - there is a Hall of Fame, a 'Legends' Gallery, an annual 'Person of the Year' and clubs have their own annual awards.

The pace never stops and VX continues to grow and spread, the standards get ever higher and our players continue to make history.New paragraph
